Representative Shevrin Jones and Senator Oscar Braynon, II,
In Partnership with The Children’s Services Council and Broward County Sheriff’s Department,
To Host Call to Action, Choose Peace/Stop Violence Press Conference and Town Hall on Monday, September 16, 2013

West Park, FL-The recent wave of crime in South Florida has prompted Representative Shevrin Jones (D-West Park) and Senator Oscar Braynon, II (D-Miami Gardens) to create a strategic plan to quell violence in the community. They will host a call to action press conference, Choose Peace/Stop Violence, on Monday, September 16, 2013 at West Park Town Hall and Commission Chamber, 1965 S. State Road 7, West Park, FL 33023 at 11am. This pioneering effort stemmed from a spirited meeting that took place at the Urban League of Broward County this past week with Representative Jones, Children’s Services Council, BSO and other key organizations that currently work with youth who are out of school and may have had a brush with the law. The goal of this strategic alliance is to implement a more cohesive county -wide effort to address providing resources, mentoring and jobs to help at risk youth become more productive members of society.

“It is time we bring our community stakeholders together to address the ongoing violence that has taken lives of young people and is destroying our communities. This is not a Democratic or Republican issue; it’s a community issue that affects us all,” states Representative Shevrin Jones.

Representative Jones and Senator Braynon will also host an informative community Town Hall that night at 7pm at the Koinonia Worship Center’s Sanctuary, 4900 W Hallandale Beach Blvd, Pembroke Park, FL. This open forum is designed for residents and community agencies to create a plan to address the escalating crime in the community.

Representative Jones has long been an advocate for engaging the youth in our community. He is the Chairman and CEO of L.E.A.D, Leaders by Empowerment Activist by Development, a mentoring organization that provides middle and high school students with the tools they need to be successful in school and in life.
