100 Black Men of South Florida serves Baskets and Hot Meals to underserved communities in Miami Dade

On November 19, 2011, the 100 Black Men of South Florida provided Thanksgiving Meals for residents in Miami Dade and Broward counties through their annual Thanksgiving Food Drive.

Since 1989, the 100, through its Thanksgiving Food Drive, has purchased and assembled “baskets” with traditional Thanksgiving meals for underserved Miami-Dade and Broward County residents. The 100 delivers the meals to various social and Community Partner Programs. The agencies identify the families and distribute the meals.

To date more than 10,000 families have benefited from the program through the 100’s partnership with PUBLIX supermarkets and UPS along with this year’s sponsors – Overtown Youth Center, Orange Bowl Committee, Royal Caribbean, Weinberg, Wheeler, Hudgins, Gunn & Dial and Lydecker Diaz.

The 100 served Thanksgiving meals from as far south as Florida City and as far north as Sunrise. For the first time since it began, the delivery of hot meals was included as a component of the event. Meal deliveries were accomplished through partnerships with City of Miami Gardens Commissioner Oliver Gilbert, and Miami-
Dade County Commissioners Dennis Moss, and Jean Monestine.
