President’s Message

I am honored to serve as the President of One Hundred Black Men of South Florida, Inc.  Our organization is made up of a talented group of men in business, industry, public affairs, government and the professions who share a common goal of improving the quality of life for African-American young men through mentoring.  It has been a privilege serving the 100 in various capacities over the years.  During that time, not only have I served with a wonderful group of individuals, but I have developed friendships that will last a lifetime.

With a mission to improve the quality of life of our citizens and enhance educational opportunities for African- Americans, our members continue to serve as a strong force for overcoming cultural and financial obstacles, the achievements of African-American youth, emphasizing young African-American males.

As a part of the 100 Black Men of America’s “Four For The Future Initiative” Economic Development, Education, Health & Wellness and Mentoring, the South Florida Chapter is engaged in a targeted effort to provide holistic support for youth we serve.  To that end, we have developed several programs to address these concerns including:

  • Harold Guinyard Leadership Academy (DHGLA)-premier mentoring program through high school graduation.
  • Positive Youth Development (PYD)- intensive mentoring program for middle school students.
  • Collegiate 100-college auxiliary and mentoring program.
  • Thanksgiving Food Drive-more than 10,000 individuals per year in south Florida receive meals through the program.
  • Christmas Shopping Spree-provides Christmas Joy to more than 200 children per year.
  • Summer Programs (High School Summer Nursing & Health Sciences Academy, Middle School Summer Law Program)- intensive summer programs which provide hands-on education and training.
  • Law Enforcement & Emergency Services Career Fair-comprehensive career fair for tri-county law enforcement and emergency services agencies.
  • Health & Wellness Initiatives- programs addressing serious health and wellness concerns.

We hope to build on these accomplishments, as we strive to make a more significant impact in our community.  The organization would not be able to operate successfully without continuing support from our community partners, stakeholders and supporters.  We sincerely thank you for your support and generosity.  Further, we encourage new supporters to join us in supporting our worthwhile mission.

With gratitude,

Damian E. Thomas, President

One Hundred Black Men of South Florida, Inc.
