Leadership Academy Experiences Aviation

The excitement builds for members of the 100 Black Men of South Florida Leadership Academy during their meeting with Mr. Barrington A. Irving, the first African American, and youngest man, to flight around the world. The Young Leaders experienced a display of Aviation and Robotics at Irving’s Opa Locka Airport Flight School. They were also taught how to develop flight plans, simulate flying, and build robots.

In addition, the Young Leaders had an opportunity to see the plane that Mr. Irving flew around the world. Curious about how Mr. Irving personal needs were met such as using the rest room during his flight, his response was; “I ate a lot of sunflower seeds”. This experience was an eye opener for all involved, including the Mentors.
