College Fair Awarding $5 Million In Scholarships

MIAMI (CBS4) – Tariq Mclean spent Wednesday morning asking questions which could determine the next four years of his life.
“I want to major in accounting and minor in marketing,” said Mclean.

But before he gets to college he’s hoping to land a scholarship.

“This brings colleges to the students so we have a connection,” said Mclean.

At the Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church, 10701 S.W. 184th Street, Mclean took part in the 100 Black Men of South Florida and Infinite Scholars College Fair.

“Every person should want to take advantage of this. They get to see schools they might not have a chance to visit,” said Al Dotson from 100 Black Men of South Florida.

More than 40 colleges participated in the Infinite Scholarship College Fair, giving away over five millions dollars of scholarships. A similar college fair was held Tuesday at Miami’s Overtown Youth Center on NW 14th Street. The two-day event allowed students to learn about colleges they typically wouldn’t be able to visit.

“Giving the young people the opportunity to meet recruiters, bring their grades, bring their transcripts and then instant admission is what this is all about,” Dotson said.

It’s also about standing out amid the thousands of future job seekers.

“High school diploma is not enough any more. You have to go up and above,” said Mclean who will get a chance to go to college. “I’m going to be the best accountant on Wall Street. Not ‘I might’ or ‘maybe’, no, ‘I am’.”
